Abandoned Lot
The former parking lot at old Saddle Cove was abandoned by the sinking Lake Mead reservoir, along with an adjacent boat ramp now far from the present shoreline, both with healthy creosote growing through cracks in the pavement. In early 2024 the lot was marked for “demolition of outdated infrastructure to enhance the visitor experience” by the National Park System, as site signage stated. I photographed a series of aluminum sculptures there before it was demolished, to consider new forms of memorialization to sites and their messages that can vanish from history right before our eyes.
